Orissa’s beaches are unspoilt, long golden stretches with the aquamarine seas stretching out in a vivid vista before you. Blessed with a long coastline and favorable weather, Orissa is the perfect destination if you love beaches that are not crowded. The most famous ones are Aryapalli, Gopalpur, Balaramgadi, Chandipur, Baliharachandi, Patisonapur, Chandrabhaga and Puri. Though you may not visit all these lovely beaches you could at least visit a few and experience them in a wonderful way when you join Namaste India’s Fabulous Orissa Beaches Tour.
A typical 8 nights 9 days itinerary would take you to some of the best in a plan that goes like this:
Day 1: Bhubhaneshwar
Arrive in Bhubhaneshwar to a warm welcome from our tour representative who escorts you to your hotel and makes sure you are settled in. You have the day free to go off on your own and find out the charms of this city.
Day 2: Bhubhaneshwar, Dhauli, Hirapur, Pipli, Raghurajpur-Puri
Breakfast over you board a waiting coach to travel to Dhauli. Just 8 km from Bhubhaneshwar, Dhauli Hills are famously known for the Ashoka edicts and the place where he had a change of heart. You visit the Vishwa Shanti stupa and Peace Pagoda too before proceeding to Hirapur, another 8 km away where you come upon the Chausath Yogini Temple dedicated to Shakti. The walls bear beautiful carvings of Yoginis and nine Katyayanis. Next on the stop is Pipli where we stop to admire the handicrafts and arts of this region. You could buy mementoes of appliqué work. After that we proceed to Raghurajpur, a village famous for its heritage crafts. This is the home of Pattachitra painters, an art that goes back to the 5th century BC. Surely you will buy some articles to take home and as gifts. Finally, the coach takes you to Puri, the holy city and also one fine beach destination. Check into your hotel room and relax. The evening is free for you to explore Puri.
Day 3: Puri, Konark, Puri
Early in the morning the group sets out for the famed Jagannath Temple for a darshan and then we proceed to the beach to get some fresh air. Spend some time here relaxing or bathing in the sea and then we proceed to Konark, another famous beach and temple site. The Sun temple in Konark is fabulously spectacular, dating back to the 13th century. Just 35 km from Puri, this excursion not only takes you to the Sun Temple but also some smaller shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva and Durga and of course some time at the beach. The beach is only 3 km from the Temple and beautiful in its own right. You will love spending a couple of hours here and watch the sun set into the ocean before returning to Puri for a well-earned rest.
Day 4: Puri, Chilika, Gopalpur
Breakfast on local delicacies and then board the coach for the travel to Chilika. Chilika is a large water body comprising of a lagoon of brackish water spread over Ganjam, Khurda and Puri districts. It is home to a variety of flora and hundreds of bird species. Go boating on the waters to explore Birds Island and Nalabana Island. It is then time to go on to Gopalpur, another fabulous beach resort where you book into your hotel and rest for the night.
Day 5: Taratarini and Patisonapur Beaches
Gopalpur is not just the beach but it is also famous for the Taratarini temple. We climb a small hillock to view this temple and then proceed to Patisonapur. In comparison to the more crowded beaches, Patisonapur is relatively quiet and gives time for a breather. Watch as the sun sets and then return to Gopalpur hotel for the night.
Day 6: Gopalpur, Bhubhaneshwar
Breakfast and then board the coach for the drive to Bhubhaneshwar where you check into your room on arrival freshen up and get ready to take a trip to the temples. The group visits Rajarani and Parsurameswar temples before proceeding to the Mukteswar temple, renowned for its architectural splendor. The walls bear intricately carved sculptures and the style of architecture is more Dravidian than North Indian. Bhubhaneshwar is also famous for its Vaital Deul Temple, dedicated to Durga and Shakti. Like Mukteswar, this temple too has fabulous carvings throughout its spread. The complex is large and it takes time to view each section but you will be impressed by the details here and the tantric origins. As evening falls you return to your hotel room.
Day 7: Bhubhaneshwar, Chandipur
Board a coach for the drive to Chandipur to visit the Khirachora Gopinath temple after which we check into the hotel. Refresh, put on appropriate beach wear and head for the Chandipur beach. This beautiful beach is number two in terms of popularity and is unspoilt. From here you go on to Balaramgadi where the river meets the sea. As the sun sets you return to your room for the overnight stay.
Day 8: Chandipur, Bhubhaneshwar
The morning is spent in visiting the Panchlingeshwar temple located on top of a small hillock. The view is simply marvelous from here and the sight of a spring flowing from the five lingams is one to awe the mind. You can have lunch by the side of the spring, relax and wander off before you board the coach for your return trip to Bhubhaneshwar and the night’s stay.
Day 9: Bhubhaneshwar departure
Breakfast is served and after that our tour guide assists you with onward departure for the airport or railway station. The tour ends here and you promise to return to explore the beauties of Orissa once again.
