It takes all of 4 hours to cover the distance across some incredibly fascinating scenery as you cross streams, come across waterfalls, lakes and lush plantations lining the road. Feast on a Kerala breakfast spread and set out to explore this jewel of Kerala hill stations. The town itself is located at a height of 1600 metres at the confluence of three streams around which sprawl lush green tea plantations with the Anamudi peak in the distance. A trip to the Eravikulam National Park brings you face to face with the Nilgiri Tahr, hundreds of birds splitting the air with their cacophony and myriad butterflies flitting about joyfully. The Anamudi Peak is located inside this park. Then you move on to a couple of tea plantations to view how tealeaves are plucked and processed, enjoy a cup and buy a pack. After that we take a walk to Echo Point followed by a visit to the Matupetty Lake and Dam, located 13 km away, a charming picnic point. Visit to the Top Station, 32 km away and at a height of 1700 metres, is simply unforgettable for the scenic view it offers. Later, we visit Rajmalai and Kundale Lake for some boating on the tranquil waters. It is evening and time to return to your room for well deserved rest.
Day 3: Munnar Thekkady
Breakfast done with you board a coach for the 110 km drive to Thekkady that proves to be enchantingly fascinating. After 3 hours you arrive at the game reserve and check into your hotel to freshen up. Then we set out on an exploration of the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. Day 4: Kumarakom Alleppey
Set out for Alleppey after a hearty breakfast and admire the scenery, mainly made up of lush tropical vegetation, green ricefields and waterways as you arrive at the Venice of the East. The waterways are crowded with houseboats much like the Dal in Srinagar but with a world of difference and an ambience typically Malayali in style. On arrival you board a houseboat for your cruise on the backwaters to live life the way people do as the boat cruises along. There is plenty to do and observe as the houseboat glides along. You enjoy a lovely lunch and hearty dinner after which you stay overnight on the boat.
