Traveling with kids can be a challenge, but it can also be a wonderful experience for the whole family. We believe, the earlier kids are exposed to different countries and cultures the more open-minded they become. Traveling is a great opportunity to bond as a family and to share unforgettable experiences together. It gives you the opportunity to create beautiful memories for all the members of your family, that you will be able to talk about for a very long time.
However, we are aware that traveling with kids requires advanced organizational skills. You’ll also need to be a great entertainer, personal assistant, nurse, chef and travel agent in one.
Whilst being a mum is challenging enough, traveling with kids takes these challenges to new heights. But we promise every single bit of it will be worth it and rewarding for both of you and your children.
Here are a few tips to make your life a little easier whilst being on the road. Of course, it will depend largely on the age of your kids and the destination that you are going to, but there are a few general rules and gadgets that will make your life just a little bit easier:
01. Let the Kids Help You do the Research.
Ask them what they want to do. Of course, the holiday is for everyone and each family member should get to do what they would like to. If you decide to visit a museum, for example, let the kids plan the afternoon. Most major cities have an abundance of kid-friendly activities to choose from. Most kids will complain less if they know they have something to look forward to.
02. Play the Waiting Game.
Traveling is often a lot about waiting. Waiting at the train station, waiting at airports, waiting in queues, the list goes on. Be prepared. Always have something handy to make the waiting a little bit more appealing. Pens and paper, small card games, music, etc. Even games such as “My little eye” can be quite entertaining. Make a game out of waiting and time will fly.
03. Pack their Bag.
As a parent, you don’t really want to carry your own suitcase as well as everyone elses’. As soon as your kids can walk, get them their own backpack or suitcase with all of the essential items that you will need for the journey. Wipes, food, nappies, water, hat, you name it. Trunki has a very innovative range of travel backpacks and suitcases, that will keep the kids entertained and the parents happy. Boost Apak, for example, is a booster seat and backpack in one.
04. Traveling is Discovering.
Traveling is exciting. It is also a great opportunity to learn. Look up the country you are visiting on a map or show your children a globe of the world and let them find it. Teach them some of the basics of the local language. While their world is already filled with new and exciting things, traveling will broaden their horizon even more.
