Badrinath Tour Packages
If you are searching for a Badrinath tour package in 2026, the two questions most pilgrims ask first are the same: how much will it cost, and will someone handle everything so I do not have to figure it out myself?
Getting to Badrinath from any Indian city involves long-distance travel, a 10-12 hour mountain road drive, accommodation at 3,133 metres altitude, Yatra Registration, and temple logistics, all of which need advance coordination. Planning all of this yourself takes time, and that is the part we take off your hands.
Namaste India Trip is a Ministry of Tourism, Government of India approved operator with 17 years of Himalayan pilgrimage experience. We offer Badrinath Yatra packages starting from ₹18,500 per person: budget group options, standard private packages, deluxe tours, and helicopter packages, all managed from your departure city until you are back home.

About Badrinath Dham
Badrinath Dham is one of the four sacred Char Dhams and one of the most important pilgrimages for Hindu devotees across India. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the temple sits at 3,133 metres in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, on the banks of the Alaknanda River.
Badrinath is one of the 108 Divya Desams, the most sacred Vishnu shrines in the Vaishnava tradition. Open to devotees for approximately six months each year (late April or early May to November), pilgrims from across India and the world visit the Badrinath temple to seek the blessings of Badri Vishal.
According to tradition, Adi Shankaracharya established Badrinath as a pilgrimage centre in the 8th-9th century CE. The practice of the Rawal (head priest) coming from Kerala’s Namboodiri Brahmin community is also credited to him and continues today. This connection makes the Badrinath Dham Yatra especially significant for South Indian families.
In 2026 the temple doors opened on 23 April, with about 15,000 devotees present.

Badrinath Kapat opening and closing 2026
| Event | Date | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Kapat Opening 2026 | 23 April 2026 | 6:15 AM |
| Kapat Closing 2026 | To be announced on Vijayadashami | TBC by BKTC |
Dates follow the Hindu calendar. The opening date is announced on Basant Panchami and the closing date on Vijayadashami, and the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) publishes both. Verify the final closing date at badrinath-kedarnath.gov.in before booking November travel.
Best time to visit Badrinath: season guide
The temple is open from late April or early May until it closes for winter in November. We recommend late September and October. The monsoon is over by then, Neelkanth peak is usually clear, and queues are shorter than in May and June.
| Period | What to expect | Our advice |
|---|---|---|
| Late April to June | Opening weeks and peak season. Mild days, cold nights | Book hotels and helicopter seats early |
| July to August | Monsoon. Landslides can block the highway and hold traffic for long periods | Avoid if you can, or keep a spare day |
| September to October | Rain eases and the mountain views open up | Our recommended window |
| November (until closing) | Very cold, with a chance of snow | Book only after the closing date is announced |
The opening ceremony falls in late April or early May (23 April in 2026). Book at least two months ahead if you want to be there for it.
Key attractions covered in our Badrinath packages
Badrinath Temple (Badri Vishal)
The main sanctum houses the idol of Lord Badrinarayan, a black Shaligram stone idol in Padmasana posture. The early morning Abhishek (booked in advance) and the evening aarti are the main daily rituals. Darshan assistance is included in all our packages.
Tapt Kund
A natural hot spring right next to the temple. Pilgrims traditionally bathe here before Darshan, believed to purify before entering the sanctum. Our tour manager guides you on timing to avoid the mid-morning rush.
Brahma Kapal
A sacred ghat on the Alaknanda River where pitru tarpan (ancestral prayers) are performed. For families wishing to offer prayers for departed relatives, Brahma Kapal is the most significant spot near Badrinath. Priest charges are paid directly and vary, so agree the amount before the ritual starts. Our packages include dedicated time here.
Mana Village
We plan the Mana visit for early morning, before most day visitors arrive.–}Mana is about 4 km from Badrinath by road and is promoted as India’s first village. It lies near the border with Tibet.
Vasudhara Falls
A waterfall about 120 metres high. The trek starts beyond Mana Village and takes about three hours. It is an optional add-on for fit pilgrims with time to spare.
Panch Prayag (en route)
Five sacred river confluences on the Haridwar-Badrinath highway: Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, Nandaprayag, and Vishnuprayag. Our standard and deluxe packages include short stops at key confluences.
Darshan timings at Badrinath Temple 2026
| Session | Approx. hours |
|---|---|
| Morning | 4:30 AM to 1:00 PM |
| Afternoon break | 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM |
| Evening | 4:30 PM to 9:00 PM |
These are the broad temple hours listed by Incredible India. The Uttarakhand Tourism portal publishes aarti and bhog timings separately, and they can change during the season, so check the BKTC website before you go.
The early morning Abhishek and other special pujas are booked through the BKTC’s official online puja booking. On busy days in May and June the general queue gets long. We book pujas where slots are open and plan your darshan around the crowd. How long you wait still depends on the day.
What is not included in our packages
- Flights or trains to Haridwar/Dehradun, available as add-on, ask at enquiry
- Personal travel insurance, strongly recommended; ask us at booking
- Brahma Kapal puja charges, paid directly to priest
- Lunch on road days (except Deluxe and Helicopter packages)
- Personal expenses, donations, shopping
- Pony or palki charges where applicable, paid at official counters
- Medical emergency costs, covered by travel insurance (recommended)
- Additional nights due to weather delays or road closures
Your written quote lists every inclusion and exclusion. Confirm the final amount before you pay.
Mandatory Yatra Registration: do this first
Registration for the Char Dham Yatra is compulsory and free. Uttarakhand Tourism asks pilgrims to register themselves, and their vehicles, before they start the journey.
You can register:
- on the official portal, registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in
- on the Tourist Care Uttarakhand app (Android and iOS)
- at registration counters in Haridwar, Rishikesh and Vikasnagar, or at the Dham entry points
To register online:
- Sign up or log in on the portal.
- Add each traveller’s details with a photo ID such as Aadhaar or a passport.
- Select Badrinath (and any other Dhams) and your travel dates.
- Download the Yatra Registration Letter with its QR code.
Carry the letter printed and on your phone. The QR code is checked when you reach the Dham. Counter queues get long in peak season, so register from home.
For help, call the toll-free number 1364 or the helpline 0135-3520100. When you book with us, our team checks every traveller’s registration letter before departure and helps anyone stuck on the portal.
Rules to know for Badrinath Yatra 2026
- Temple entry: In March 2026 the BKTC decided to restrict entry of non-Hindus to Badrinath, Kedarnath and other temples it manages. The rule has been debated and could change, so NRI and foreign travellers should confirm the current position with the BKTC before booking.
- Your own vehicle: If you drive to Badrinath, register the vehicle on the same portal as your yatra registration.
Health and safety for Badrinath Yatra
At 3,133 metres the air is thinner, so each breath carries less oxygen than in the plains. Most people notice breathlessness on stairs. Travellers over 60, and anyone with heart, blood pressure or breathing problems, should see a doctor before booking.
- Drink water regularly and keep meals light. If your doctor has limited your fluid intake, follow that advice.
- Headache, nausea, dizziness or unusual breathlessness can be signs of altitude sickness. Stop going higher, tell your tour manager and get medical advice. If the symptoms get worse, the right step is to go down to a lower altitude.
- Our road packages include a night stop before Badrinath, which makes the climb gentler.
What to pack for Badrinath Yatra
Clothing
- Thermal inner wear (top and bottom), 2 sets minimum. Nights at Badrinath are cold even in June.
- Fleece jacket or woollen sweater: 2
- Waterproof windcheater or rain jacket
- Warm socks: 4 pairs minimum
- Woollen cap and gloves
Footwear
- Ankle-support walking shoes with grip sole, not sandals or flat-soled shoes
- One extra pair of warm socks in waterproof bag
Medicines
- Personal daily medicines: carry 3 extra days’ supply
- ORS sachets, pain relief, antiseptic cream
- Pulse oximeter (₹800-₹1,200) to monitor blood oxygen at altitude
- Sunscreen SPF 50+, since UV is much stronger at altitude
Documents and Money
- Original photo ID (Aadhaar or passport) + one photocopy
- Yatra Registration Number: printed copy + saved offline on phone
- Helicopter booking confirmation (if applicable)
- Carry ₹3,000-₹5,000 in cash from Haridwar. ATMs and card networks at Badrinath are not always reliable in peak season.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Driving Haridwar to Badrinath in one day. It is 10-12 hours on hill roads with a steep climb at the end. A night stop on the way is easier on the body, especially for older travellers.
- Booking without checking inclusions. A ₹10,000 “Badrinath package” excluding accommodation and transport often costs more in the end than an all-inclusive one. Always get a written line-by-line breakdown before paying.
- Travelling in July-August without a spare day. Landslides can block the highway and hold traffic for long periods. Keep at least one buffer day.
Pro tips for Badrinath Yatra
- Visit Mana Village early. It is quieter before the day visitors from Badrinath arrive, so you get time at Vyas Gufa and Bhim Pul without a crowd.
- Attend both the early morning Abhishek and the evening aarti. The Abhishek has to be booked in advance with the BKTC. Seeing the temple at dawn and again when it is lit up at night is worth the early start.
- Book ground-floor rooms if travelling with parents above 65. Many hotels in Jyotirmath and Badrinath do not have lifts. After a long mountain drive, climbing 3 flights of stairs at altitude is exhausting.
- Start your Day 1 mountain drive by 6:00-6:30 AM from Haridwar. The 9-10 hour Haridwar-Jyotirmath drive is long. Starting early means arriving before dark; mountain roads at night are not advisable even with experienced drivers.

Practical answers about Badrinath Tour Packages
How to register for Badrinath Yatra?
Ans: Registration is compulsory and free. Register on the official Char Dham portal, on the Tourist Care Uttarakhand app, or at the counters in Haridwar and Rishikesh. Each traveller needs their own registration, and the QR code is checked when you reach the Dham. The full steps are in the registration section above.
Is Badrinath Yatra by helicopter safe?
Ans: Helicopter charters in Uttarakhand are run by DGCA-regulated operators and fly only when the weather allows. No flight is completely free of risk, so book with a licensed operator, follow the weight and baggage limits, and keep a spare day in case weather holds flights back.
When does the Badrinath Yatra start in 2026?
Ans: The Badrinath temple opened on 23 April 2026 at 6:15 AM. The closing date is announced on Vijayadashami.
What is the price of the Badrinath Yatra by helicopter?
Ans: Our 4N/5D Badrinath helicopter package from Dehradun costs ₹85,000 to ₹1,05,000 per person. The cost depends on your starting point, inclusions, hotel category and travel duration.
How many days are enough for Badrinath Yatra?
Ans: By road from Haridwar, 4 days is the minimum. Five to six days is more comfortable and covers Mana Village and the Panch Prayag. A Badrinath Kedarnath trip needs 7 to 8 days.
How far is the Badrinath helipad from the main temple?
Ans: The Badrinath helipad is about 1 km away from the main entrance, connected by a short road transfer.
How far is Badrinath from Rishikesh by road?
Ans: Badrinath is about 300 km away from Rishikesh by road, a 10-12 hour drive via Devprayag, Rudraprayag and Jyotirmath.
What is the best time to visit Badrinath?
Ans: Most pilgrims travel in May-June or September-October. We recommend late September and October, and suggest avoiding July and August because of monsoon landslides.
How can I go to Badrinath and Kedarnath?
Ans: The two temples are connected by road via Rudraprayag, and Badrinath is about 230 km from Kedarnath. Our Badrinath Kedarnath Do Dham package covers both in 7 nights and 8 days from Haridwar. See also our Badrinath Kedarnath Yatra from Delhi.
Is there any helicopter service to Badrinath?
Ans: Yes. Most Badrinath flights are charters from Sahastradhara Helipad in Dehradun. A government shuttle from Gauchar has been announced; check heliyatra.irctc.co.in for its current status. There is no direct helicopter from Delhi, so you reach Dehradun first.
How much does a trip to Badrinath cost?
Ans: Our road packages start at ₹18,500 per person for 3 nights ex Haridwar. Private and deluxe trips cost ₹22,000 to ₹45,000, and helicopter packages ₹85,000 to ₹1,05,000 per person. The price depends on the starting city, hotels, group size and number of days. These prices are indicative.
Can we go to Badrinath by own car?
Ans: Yes, you can reach the holy shrine of Lord Badri by your own car. The route is a long mountain drive with sharp bends, landslide-prone stretches and heavy yatra traffic, so it suits only confident hill drivers. Most families prefer a local driver who knows the road.
What is the story of Badrinath?
Ans: According to Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu once sat for a deep meditation here in the mountains and to save him from the harsh climatic conditions, Goddess Lakshmi, his consort, took the form of a badri (berry) tree and protected him from the scorching sun and rain. The name Badrinath comes from this legend.
How Do I get to Badrinath from Jyotirmath (Joshimath)?
Ans: The distance between Jyotirmath and Badrinath is about 45 km by road, around 1.5-2 hours. There are direct cabs from Jyotirmath to Badrinath.
