Best Time to Visit Maharashtra

Here is a season-wise guide to the best time to visit Maharashtra with family and friends.

Peak Tourism Season: October to February (Winter)

Temperature: 12°C to 30°C

  • These months are best for sightseeing, trekking, beach visits, vineyard tours and jeep safaris in tiger reserves such as Tadoba.

  • You can also enjoy festivals like Diwali, Christmas, New Year, the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival and the Pune International Film Festival in these months.

Monsoon: June to September

Temperature: 19°C to 30°C

  • You will see heavy rainfall, but the beauty of nature is at its peak. This is the favourite season for Lonavala, Khandala and Mahabaleshwar.

  • You can enjoy monsoon treks, waterfalls, Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations and local monsoon food. Ghat roads can be slow in the rain, and the core zones of Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve close for the monsoon, usually from 1 July to 30 September. Some buffer zones stay open.

Summer: March to May

Temperature: 23°C to 39°C

  • The weather is hot and humid in these months, which makes sightseeing uncomfortable for kids and senior citizens. Nagpur and the Vidarbha region regularly cross 42°C in May.

  • You can visit hill stations in these months to escape the heat of the plains.

Nashik Kumbh: the Simhastha Kumbh Mela at Nashik and Trimbakeshwar begins with flag hoisting on 31 October 2026. The main Amrit Snan dates announced by the Maharashtra government are 2 August 2027, 31 August 2027 and 11 to 12 September 2027. Expect heavy crowds and higher hotel rates in Nashik around these dates.
