Our Dwarka Somnath Gir Diu tour package covers the main temples, beaches and wildlife of Gujarat's Saurashtra coast in one trip. On this 5 nights and 6 days tour, starting and ending in Ahmedabad, you visit Dwarkadhish Temple, Bet Dwarka, Nageshwar, Porbandar, Somnath, the fort and beaches of Diu, and Sasan Gir, the core habitat of the Asiatic lion. You travel by private car, with hotels booked for every night.
Go between November and February. That is when the coast is coolest and the Gir safari is running, so all four places work well on the same trip. March is still fine, though afternoons get hot. Gir reopens only on 16 October, which makes early October a temple-only trip. From mid-June to mid-October the monsoon brings rain, the safari stays closed and the Somnath light and sound show is not held.
| Temple | Darshan timings | Aarti |
|---|---|---|
| Somnath Temple | 6 am to 10 pm | 7 am, 12 noon, 7 pm |

Sources: Shree Somnath Trust (somnath.org) for Somnath; Incredible India (Ministry of Tourism) for Dwarkadhish. Gujarat Tourism lists slightly shorter Dwarkadhish hours, so allow some margin.

Welcome to Gujarat! Upon your arrival at Ahmedabad airport or railway station, our tour representative will greet you, and you hit the road towards Jamnagar, about 310 km away. This is the longest drive of the tour, so a morning arrival works best.
On reaching Jamnagar, have your afternoon meal and drive to Lakhota Lake and Lakhota Museum. The museum opens only in the afternoon (12 pm to 8 pm from November to February, 1 pm to 9 pm from March to October) and stays shut on Wednesdays, the 2nd and 4th Saturdays and government holidays. On those days you see the palace and lake from outside. Then drive to Bala Hanuman Temple, where the chant "Shri Ram, Jai Ram, Jai Jai Ram" has continued day and night since 1 August 1964. The temple is listed in the Guinness Book of Records for it (source: Jamnagar Municipal Corporation).
After paying homage at the temple, continue about 140 km to Dwarka for dinner and overnight stay.
On the second day of your tour, you will be visiting Bet Dwarka Island and the major landmark of the city, Dwarkadhish Temple. After breakfast, head towards the island. Since February 2024, Sudarshan Setu, a 2.32 km cable-stayed bridge from Okha, has connected Bet Dwarka to the mainland, so you now reach it by road. Bet Dwarka is known for its calm surroundings and its Dwarkadhish temple.
On the way back, visit Nageshwar Temple, 16 to 18 km from Dwarka depending on the route, which is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India. Gopi Talav is close by.
Dwarkadhish Temple closes from about 1 pm to 5 pm. Rest at the hotel through the afternoon and keep darshan for the evening, when you can walk down to Gomti Ghat, climb the 56 steps to the rear side of the temple, visit Rukmini Devi Temple on the edge of town and stay for the Sandhya aarti at around 7:30 pm. If you want a quiet hour by the sea, Shivrajpur Beach near Dwarka is a good sunset stop. Overnight stay in Dwarka.
After breakfast, drive about 108 km (2 hours) to Porbandar and visit Kirti Mandir, Sudama Mandir, Tara Mandir Planetarium and Chowpatty.
Then drive to Somnath, about 155 km (3 to 3.5 hours), and check into the resort. Visit Bhalka Tirth, a small temple devoted to Lord Krishna. It is believed that this is the place where Lord Krishna was struck by an arrow shot by the hunter Jara while he was resting under a peepal tree.
End the day at Somnath Temple, listed first among the 12 Jyotirlingas in the traditional Dwadash Jyotirlinga Stotram. Attend the 7 pm aarti and stay for the light and sound show, which runs from 8 pm to 9 pm except in the monsoon (source: Shree Somnath Trust). Overnight stay in Somnath.
Drive towards Diu, about 80 to 85 km (2 to 2.5 hours), after breakfast. Diu is an island just off the Kathiawar coast near Veraval, joined to the mainland by two bridges. It sits next to Gujarat but is run separately: since 26 January 2020 it has been a district of the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
After reaching Diu, check into the hotel and head out to see Diu Fort, Nagoa Beach, Naida Caves and St. Paul's Church. If time permits, visit Gangeshwar Mahadev Temple at Fudam, where Shivlings set in the rocks are washed by the sea. After sightseeing, you will be dropped back at the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast, drive about 100 km (around 3 hours) to Sasan Gir, the entry point for the Sasan Gir jungle safari by open jeep inside Gir National Park. It is 53 km by road from Junagadh.
Wild Asiatic lions are found only in Gujarat, and Gir is the core population they have spread out from. The 2025 Lion Population Estimation counted 891 lions. Only 384 of them were inside Gir National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary; most now live in satellite populations across Saurashtra, including Barda Wildlife Sanctuary near Porbandar (source: Gujarat Forest Department). Apart from lions, you can spot leopards, spotted deer, sambar, nilgai, marsh crocodiles and the Indian python, along with birds such as the Indian Pitta and Osprey.
Before you plan the safari:
| Season | Morning slots | Afternoon slot |
|---|---|---|
| 16 October to end of February | 6:30 am to 9:30 am, plus a mid-morning slot | 3 pm to 6 pm |
| 1 March to 15 June | 6 am to 9 am, plus a mid-morning slot | 4 pm to 7 pm |
Source: official Gir permit portal (girlion.gujarat.gov.in). The mid-morning slot starts around 9 am; check the portal for the exact time on your date.
After the safari, drive back to Junagadh for night stay.
Today, you will be driving back to Ahmedabad, about 320 km, after a Gujarati breakfast. Start early. The first stop is Virpur for Jalaram Bapa Temple, and the second is Gondal, where you visit Swaminarayan Temple and Navlakha (Naulakha) Palace. Gondal's royal vintage car collection can be seen only with the palace management's permission.

Go to Dwarka first if you are starting from Ahmedabad. The road via Jamnagar reaches Dwarka naturally, and from there the coast leads down to Somnath, about 236 km away by the direct route (4 to 4.5 hours). In Dwarka, you can cover Dwarkadhish Temple, Gopi Talav, Bhadkeshwar Temple, Rukmini Temple and Nageshwar Jyotirlinga in one day.
According to tradition, the ancient city of Dwarka sank beneath the Arabian Sea. Underwater archaeologists have explored the sea off Dwarka looking for remains of its walls. Dwarka is one of the Char Dham and one of the seven sacred cities (Sapta Puri), so it matters to pilgrims and archaeologists alike.
Yes. Diu is about 80 to 85 km from Somnath, 2 to 2.5 hours by car, so a day trip by private car is possible. This package includes a night in Diu so you have enough time for the fort, beaches and caves.
Visit Diu between November and February. Summer is hot and humid, and the monsoon brings heavy rain and a rough sea.
Asiatic lions live in the wild only in Gujarat, and Gir is their core population. The sanctuary dates from 1965; ten years later, in 1975, a 259 sq km core area was declared a national park. The 2025 count found 891 lions, but only 384 were inside Gir National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary. The rest have spread into nine satellite areas across Saurashtra. Gir also has 37 other mammal species and more than 300 bird species.
Five nights and six days. That covers all four places, while anything shorter means dropping Diu or the Gir safari. With elderly travellers, 6 or 7 nights keeps the driving days shorter.
The price starts from ₹26609 per person on twin sharing. It depends on hotel category, vehicle type, group size and season.
Permits are sold only on the official portal, girlion.gujarat.gov.in. The park is closed from 16 June to 15 October.
By road over Sudarshan Setu, which opened in February 2024 and connects Okha to Bet Dwarka. You no longer need to take the ferry.
Yes, with two things to plan for. The long drives on Days 1, 3 and 6 are the most tiring part, and an extra night on the way splits them. Some temples also involve stairs: Dwarkadhish has 56 steps on the Gomti Ghat side, while Somnath offers wheelchairs, golf carts and a lift. There is no trekking on this tour.
Yes. Both cities have an airport and a railway station, and starting there shortens the first day's drive to Dwarka. The rest of the itinerary stays the same.
