Pick by what you want to see first, then by the number of days you have.
For Jyotirlinga darshan: the 2-day or 4-day Ujjain Omkareshwar tour from Indore. Add a day if you want to attend Bhasma Aarti.
For a wildlife trip: the Bandhavgarh National Park Tour (4 days), the Kanha Pench Wildlife Tour (5 days) or the 10-day Madhya Pradesh Wildlife Tour Package.
For heritage: the Orchha Sightseeing Tour, the Khajuraho Dance Festival Tour or the 8-day Heritage Tour of Madhya Pradesh.
For a family holiday or honeymoon in the hills: the Pachmarhi Sightseeing Tour or the 5-day Wonderful Madhya Pradesh Tour, which covers Bhopal and Pachmarhi.
Best Time to Visit Madhya Pradesh
The best time to visit Madhya Pradesh is during the winter season, October to March, as the weather is mostly cool (8°C to 25°C) and pleasant, which suits sightseeing, pilgrimage, and wildlife safaris. This is also the season of festivals like the Khajuraho Dance Festival (February) and the Tansen Music Festival (December).
The monsoon is a good time for hill stations and waterfalls (July to September). Tourists come for the green landscapes of hill stations like Pachmarhi, and for waterfalls such as Dhuandhar Falls near Jabalpur, which are in full flow then. The core zones of the national parks close for the monsoon. Buffer zone safaris continue in Kanha, Bandhavgarh, Pench and Satpura, so a monsoon wildlife trip is possible, but it is not the same as a core zone safari.
Summer (April to June) is hot. Animals stay close to water in the heat, which can make wildlife easier to see, though tiger sightings are never guaranteed. Core zones close for the monsoon at the end of June and reopen in October. The Forest Department sets the dates each season, so check its official booking portal for your park and date.
Safari Timings for the 2026-27 Season
The Madhya Pradesh Forest Department has published these park entry and exit timings for safari dates from 1 October 2026. The department can revise them, so check before you travel.
| Months | Morning Safari | Evening Safari |
|---|---|---|
| October and November | 6:00 AM to 11:30 AM | 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM |
| December and January | 6:20 AM to 11:30 AM | 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM |
| February and March | 6:10 AM to 11:30 AM | 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM |
| April to June | 5:30 AM to 11:00 AM | 3:30 PM to 7:00 PM |
Best Places to Visit in Madhya Pradesh
Madhya Pradesh is a mix of culture, architecture, wildlife, and spirituality. Here are some of the best tourist places in Madhya Pradesh:
Khajuraho Group of Monuments (UNESCO World Heritage Site)
Khajuraho is a UNESCO-listed group of 23 temples, including one partly excavated structure, built by the Chandela rulers between 950 and 1050 AD. MP Tourism records that there were originally 85. The carvings show gods, court life, dancers and musicians, and the well-known erotic sculptures are only a small part of them. It is also the setting for an annual dance festival, cultural performances, Light and sound show, and more. Khajuraho has its own airport, about 2 km from the temples.
Bandhavgarh National Park
Bandhavgarh is a national park and Tiger Reserve in Umaria district. Umaria is the nearest railway station (about 35 km), Katni is about 100 km away and Jabalpur airport is about 190 km. MP Tourism describes it as a park where the tiger density is high, though a sighting on any single safari is never guaranteed. There are plenty of other animals to look for too (Indian Wild Dog, Sloth Bear, Striped Hyena, Sambar Deer, Hanuman Langur, and more). Safaris run in three core zones: Tala, Magadhi and Khitauli. Many tourists add jungle safaris to their Madhya Pradesh tour plan, which are available through both jeep and canter.
Sanchi Stupa (UNESCO World Heritage Site)
Sanchi, in Raisen district about 49 km from Bhopal, is an important place for Buddhists. From attending Buddhist festivals and guided tours to Buddhist monasteries to seeing the Ashoka Pillar and the carved gateways, Sanchi is a hub for Buddhist architecture and culture. The place attracts history enthusiasts as well, as the Great Stupa was begun by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BC and is one of the oldest stone structures in the country.
Gwalior
Gwalior, 321 km from Delhi, is the usual gateway to the north of the state. The seat of power of Scindias was once home to the Rajput Rulers. Gwalior Fort, the tomb of Tansen, Jai Vilas Palace, Scindia Museum, and Man Singh Palace visits give you a glimpse into the royal and glorious past of Madhya Pradesh. If you happen to come here during the Tansen Music Festival (December), you can attend its classical music concerts.
Orchha
Orchha is a small town on the banks of the Betwa, 17 km from Jhansi. It was founded in the 16th century by the Bundela chief Rudra Pratap Singh, and its fort and palaces are well preserved. Boating on the river is popular with tourists. Do add Jahangir Mahal, Ram Raja Temple, Orchha Fort, Chaturbhuj Temple and the riverside cenotaphs to your itinerary.
Ujjain
Ujjain, 54 km from Indore, is a city of temples, and most of them are dedicated to Lord Shiva. It houses the Mahakaleshwar temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. Bhasma Aarti here needs prior registration on the temple's official website, and the booking rules change, so check them before you travel. Ujjain is also the place where the Simhastha Kumbh takes place once every 12 years (the next is in 2028), and it is one of the seven sacred cities for Hindus. You'll see people attending evening Aarti at Ram Ghat, taking Darshan at Kal Bhairav Temple, and walking through the Mahakal Lok corridor. Our Jyotirlinga tour covers Ujjain along with Omkareshwar, which is 80 km from Indore.
Bhopal
This is the capital city, a combination of modernity and historical charm. Bhopal also gives a glimpse into Muslim culture which is evident in the Taj-ul-Masajid, Moti Masjid, Jama Masjid, and Shaukat Mahal. Explore museums, go boating, and try the local Mughlai cuisine. Sanchi (about 49 km) and Bhimbetka (45 km) are easy day trips from here.
Pachmarhi
Pachmarhi is the main hill station of Madhya Pradesh. It sits at around 1,100 metres in the Satpura range, and Dhoopgarh just outside town (1,352 metres) is the highest point in the state. Pachmarhi is known for its waterfalls, viewpoints and forest walks, and is a popular choice for families and honeymoon couples. Most travellers reach it by road from Bhopal or from Pipariya railway station.
Indore
Indore is the starting point for Ujjain (54 km), Omkareshwar (80 km) and Mandu (about 95-100 km). MP Tourism's itinerary puts the drive from Indore airport to Ujjain at about 1.5 hours, Ujjain to Omkareshwar at about 4 hours, and Mandu back to Indore at about 2.5 hours. In the city, see Rajwada and Lal Bagh Palace, and visit Sarafa Bazaar or Chappan Dukan for street food.

One circuit, such as Ujjain and Omkareshwar or Gwalior, Orchha and Khajuraho, takes 3-5 days. Plan transportation, whether you come via air, rail, or road. Book accommodation in advance to avoid hassles. Set a budget, from low-cost options to luxury travel.
How many days are required for the Madhya Pradesh trip?
Ans: Allow 3-5 days for one circuit and 7-10 days if you combine two regions, for example Bhopal, Sanchi and Pachmarhi with Ujjain, or Khajuraho with Bandhavgarh. A short Ujjain and Omkareshwar trip needs 2-3 days.
