Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga Temple
Seek blessings at Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga Temple, an important Jyotirlinga pilgrimage site included in the itinerary.
This 3 Jyotirlinga Tour of Maharashtra is designed for pilgrims who want to visit three of Lord Shiva's most revered sacred shrines in a single, well-organised journey. You will be visiting Trimbakeshwar (Nashik), Grishneshwar (Aurangabad), and Bhimashankar (Sahyadri hills) — three of the twelve Jyotirlingas of India, all located within Maharashtra. Each shrine offers its own distinct spiritual significance, architecture, and setting.
In addition to the three Jyotirlingas, the tour includes a visit to Shirdi for Sai Baba Darshan and a cultural stop at the Ellora Caves — a UNESCO World Heritage Site with the iconic Kailash Temple. We handle all your travel logistics: AC transport, hotel stays, daily breakfast, and experienced drivers familiar with every route on this circuit. You focus on the Darshan; we take care of everything else.

Trimbakeshwar is located 28 km from Nashik, at the foot of the Brahmagiri hills — the source of the sacred Godavari river. It is the only Jyotirlinga in India with the Trimbaka (three-faced) lingam, representing Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh. The temple is particularly known for Rudrabhishek, Tripindi Shraddha (ancestral peace rituals), and Kalsarpa Dosha Nivaran puja — pilgrims come specifically for these from across India.

Darshan Timings: 5:30 AM – 9:00 PM

From Mumbai: 180 km | approx. 4 hrs
Grishneshwar is the 12th and last of the 12 Jyotirlingas, located near Ellora village — just 1 km from the Ellora Caves. The temple features beautifully sculpted red-stone architecture. The presiding deity here is Lord Grishneshwar (Ghushmeshwar) and the lingam is a Shivling situated in a sacred water tank. The temple is also notable for being one of the few where the deity's name means 'Lord of Compassion.'
Jyotirlinga Number: 12th of 12 — the last in the sacred sequence

Mangal Aarti: 4:00 AM | Evening Aarti: 7:30 PM

Bhimashankar is set in the Sahyadri hills, roughly 110 km from Pune and 240 km from Mumbai. At an altitude of approximately 3,250 feet, the temple sits inside the Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary — home to the Indian Giant Squirrel, Maharashtra's state animal. The Bhima river originates here. The approach involves a scenic ghat road through dense forest. Of the three temples on this tour, Bhimashankar offers the most distinctive natural setting.

Went with my wife for our anniversary and honestly it turned out better than expected. Trimbakeshwar temple in the morning had a calm feel, not too crowded, and the priest there explained the significance of the jyotirlinga nicely. Shirdi stay was comfortable, food near the hotel was decent, simple vegetarian thalis mostly. Grishneshwar and Ellora caves on day two took a bit longer than planned because of traffic near Aurangabad road but the caves themselves are worth the wait. Shani Shingnapur visit was quick, maybe 40 minutes, which was enough. Bhimashankar trek portion was tiring for my knees but manageable. Overall a peaceful spiritual trip.
Hum dono senior citizens hain aur pehli baar Jyotirlinga yatra pe gaye. Bahut acha organize kiya gaya tha, gaadi time pe aati thi aur rukhne ka arrangement bhi theek tha. Trimbakeshwar mein thoda climb tha lekin manage ho gaya. Shirdi mein Sai Baba ke darshan bahut shanti dene wale the. Grishneshwar temple chhota hai but energy alag hi feel hoti hai. Ellora caves dekhne mein pura ek din chala gaya, thoda tiring tha humare liye is age mein but worth it tha. Khana bhi accha mila raste mein, Maharashtrian thali try ki. Overall trip satisfying raha, family ko recommend karenge.
Being from Nashik I have visited Trimbakeshwar before but this time going with the whole package made it feel more organized and stress free. Panchavati ghats were beautiful at dusk with the diyas floating on the river. Shirdi experience was smooth, no long waiting like I feared. What I really liked was the Ellora caves detour, my kids who came along were fascinated by the rock cut architecture even though they complained about the heat later. Ahmednagar as a night halt was fine, nothing fancy. Bhimashankar on the final day had light rain which actually made the whole place feel fresh and green.
My mother wanted to do this yatra for years and finally we managed it together. She is 72 and the pace was manageable for her, no rushing anywhere unnecessarily. Trimbakeshwar darshan was peaceful early morning. Shirdi was crowded as expected but the arrangement for elderly visitors helped a lot. Grishneshwar temple architecture is beautiful, small but very detailed. Ellora caves needed a wheelchair for my mother partway, staff there helped arrange one. Only complaint is the washroom stops on highway were not always clean. Bhimashankar last day, we skipped the deeper trek part considering her age, still got good darshan.

This was my first visit to Maharashtra and the temple circuit exceeded expectations. Trimbakeshwar has such intricate stone work, spent a good hour just admiring the temple exterior. Nashik's Panchavati area connected to Ramayana stories was explained well during the visit. Shirdi in the evening had a festive feel since we happened to be there during a small local celebration. Ellora caves the next day, particularly cave sixteen, left me in awe of the ancient engineering. Bhimashankar being inside a wildlife sanctuary gave the final day a different, quieter energy compared to the temple towns. Highly satisfying trip overall.
Humne yeh trip apne parents ke saath liya, unhone Mahakaleshwar dekha hua hai already toh baaki jyotirlinga complete karna chahte the. Trimbakeshwar mein barish thi lekin darshan phir bhi acha hua. Shirdi mein hotel comfortable tha. Grishneshwar aur Ellora ek hi din mein cover hue, thoda packed schedule tha but sab kuch dekh liya. Shani Shingnapur ka concept bahut interesting laga, ghar mein doors nahi hote wahan. Bhimashankar trip ke last din monsoon ki wajah se green aur thanda tha, bahut acha laga. Ek suggestion, agar time thoda aur mil jaye har jagah toh better rahega.
Being from the hills myself I usually judge trips by how the mountain or forest stretches feel and Bhimashankar did not disappoint, dense greenery and misty weather during monsoon made it special. Rest of the trip Trimbakeshwar Shirdi Grishneshwar Ellora was well paced too. Ellora caves took longer than expected, around three and a half hours, but every bit worth it given the scale of the carvings. Ahmednagar was just a transit halt, nothing much to say there. Food throughout the trip was simple vegetarian, missed some variety by day three but that's a minor thing. Solid overall itinerary.
This was a mother daughter trip and we cherished every bit of it. Trimbakeshwar temple's carvings are so detailed you could stare at them for hours. Panchavati by the Godavari river had a spiritual calm to it in the evening. Shirdi darshan of Sai Baba was emotional for my mother who has been a devotee for years. Ellora caves the next day amazed us both, the scale of it is hard to describe in words. Bhimashankar to close the trip felt refreshing, cooler weather and green hills. Only small hiccup was one flat tyre en route which delayed us by an hour.
Being local to Maharashtra I still learned things about these temples I didn't know before, the guide's explanation of Grishneshwar's history was quite detailed. Trimbakeshwar's Kushavarta kund near the temple is worth visiting too, small addition to the main stop. Shirdi in the evening had a devotional bhajan session going on which added to the atmosphere. Ellora caves visit was well timed, less crowd in the afternoon. Shani Shingnapur quick stop as usual. Bhimashankar to end the trip, weather was crisp, good visibility over the hills. Smooth trip overall, no real complaints from my side.
Went with my husband and in laws, four of us total, and the trip suited everyone's pace well. Trimbakeshwar in the cool November morning was pleasant, no rush. Panchavati ghat walk in the evening was a nice relaxed activity. Shirdi darshan for my in laws was emotional, they had wanted to visit for a long time. Grishneshwar Ellora combo day was a bit long but the caves are truly something to witness in person. Shani Shingnapur stop, quick but interesting. Bhimashankar last day, weather was perfect, light chill in the air. A memorable trip for the whole family.
Hum retirement ke baad pehli baar itni lambi religious trip pe gaye, bahut acha laga overall. Trimbakeshwar mein subah subah darshan kiya, bheed kam thi. Panchavati ghat pe thodi der baithe, shanti mahsoos hui. Shirdi mein Sai Baba ka darshan bahut satisfying tha. Grishneshwar aur Ellora caves ek din mein dekhe, thoda thakaan hui humein us age mein, lekin caves dekh kar sab bhool gaye. December ka weather bhi bahut acha tha, na garmi na thand zyada. Bhimashankar last din, forest area mein thodi thand thi but pleasant. Poora trip well managed laga humein.
New year trip with my sister, both of us wanted a short spiritual break away from routine. Trimbakeshwar's temple carvings and the overall calm atmosphere set a good tone for the trip. Panchavati in the evening, sitting by the ghats, was probably my favorite quiet moment of the whole journey. Shirdi darshan was smooth despite it being peak season. Grishneshwar and Ellora caves the next day were incredible, especially the sheer size of the Kailasa temple carved out of rock. Bhimashankar to end things, cool January weather and green surroundings. Only complaint, network connectivity was patchy near Bhimashankar forest area.
Traveled with two friends, all of us in our fifties. Monsoon had just started so there was decent rain during the Bhimashankar leg which made the ghats slippery in parts, so be careful there. Trimbakeshwar and Shirdi portions on day one were smooth. Grishneshwar being one of the smaller jyotirlinga temples still had its own charm, less crowd compared to Shirdi. Ellora caves visit took almost three hours, we could have used a bit more time honestly. Ahmednagar hotel food was simple but tasty, had good bhakri and pithla there. Overall a well rounded spiritual trip despite the wet weather.
Came with my husband for our first anniversary trip and it was a nice mix of spirituality and travel. Trimbakeshwar's temple architecture is stunning, black stone work everywhere. Panchavati ghats gave us a quiet evening walk by the river. Shirdi stay had a warm atmosphere, lot of devotees around. Grishneshwar and Ellora caves the next day were the highlight, especially the massive Kailasa temple structure. Shani Shingnapur stop was brief but interesting culturally. Ahmednagar hotel was just okay, nothing special. Bhimashankar closing day had light rain and cool weather which made the forest drive pleasant. Would recommend for couples.
First time in Maharashtra for me and my wife, came specifically for this jyotirlinga circuit. Trimbakeshwar's temple structure is unlike anything back home, very unique architecture. Shirdi darshan was organized despite the crowd. Grishneshwar and Ellora caves the next day, Ellora especially took our breath away, did not expect such massive rock cut structures. Ahmednagar was a simple stopover. Bhimashankar last day had cool weather, nice change from Mumbai's humidity we experienced on arrival.
Winter timing made this trip quite comfortable, no heat issues at all which I hear can be a problem in summer months. Trimbakeshwar temple visit was peaceful, cold mornings meant fewer crowds. Shirdi darshan queue was manageable. Grishneshwar and Ellora caves the next day, spent close to four hours at Ellora alone since there's so much to see. Shani Shingnapur brief stop. Ahmednagar hotel room was good. Bhimashankar last day had a light winter fog in the morning which actually made the forest drive quite scenic. Good trip overall.
Booked this for three days with my brother. Weather was quite hot in May so afternoons were tough, especially the Ellora caves walk which has almost no shade. Trimbakeshwar and Panchavati were the highlights for me, the whole area has a certain old-world charm. Shirdi to Grishneshwar drive is long and by evening we were exhausted. Shani Shingnapur temple famous for no doors concept was interesting to see in person. Bhimashankar forest area on the last day was cooler and a nice change from the heat. Would suggest avoiding summer months if possible, otherwise itinerary is well planned.
Quick getaway before monsoon hit properly. Roads were fine, some pre monsoon showers here and there which actually cooled things down nicely. Trimbakeshwar and Panchavati covered on day one, reached Shirdi by evening tired but happy. Day two was long, Grishneshwar Ellora Shani Shingnapur all packed together, felt a bit rushed honestly and I wish there was more time at Ellora caves alone. Ahmednagar stay was average. Bhimashankar on the way back to Mumbai was the calmest part of the trip, forest surroundings and light drizzle made it memorable. Would do it again with a slower pace.
Business trip extended into a small pilgrimage since I was already in Mumbai. Managed to squeeze in the three day package and it worked out fine schedule wise. Trimbakeshwar temple queue moved reasonably fast on a weekday. Shirdi is obviously the busiest stop, plan for crowd. Grishneshwar felt more peaceful in comparison. Ellora caves are massive, wear comfortable shoes, lot of walking involved. Ahmednagar to Bhimashankar stretch on the last day had some rough patches on the road, bit bumpy. Reached Mumbai a little later than planned because of that but nothing major. Good experience for a working professional short trip.
Traveled alone as a woman for the first time on such a trip and felt reasonably safe throughout. Trimbakeshwar in the morning was peaceful with fewer crowds. Shirdi evening aarti was a beautiful experience, very emotional moment for me personally. Second day covering Grishneshwar and Ellora caves back to back was tiring but manageable. Shani Shingnapur was a quick stop, maybe half an hour. Bhimashankar last day, the forest drive was calming after two packed days of temple hopping.
Traveled during Navratri season so temples were more crowded than usual, especially Shirdi. Trimbakeshwar darshan took longer than expected because of the festive rush. Panchavati ghats had extra decorations which looked nice in the evening. Grishneshwar and Ellora caves the next day were less crowded comparatively. Shani Shingnapur stop was quick. Ahmednagar hotel was decent for the price. Bhimashankar last day, weather was pleasant, light autumn breeze. If you are planning around festival dates, keep extra buffer time in mind since queues get longer. Otherwise the itinerary itself is well thought out for covering three jyotirlingas efficiently.
Solo trip, wanted to complete a few more jyotirlingas on my personal list. Trimbakeshwar and Shirdi covered well on day one, reached hotel a bit late in the evening though, around 8 pm. Day two was heavier, Grishneshwar Ellora and Shani Shingnapur, by the time we reached Ahmednagar I was quite drained. Ellora caves are impressive but plan for a lot of walking under the sun. Ahmednagar hotel was basic but clean. Bhimashankar on day three, forest surroundings were a welcome break from temple crowds. Overall satisfied though I'd prefer a slightly less packed second day next time.
Solo trip aayath kond starting-il kurachu nervous aayirunnu, but overall journey smooth aayirunnu. Vehicle clean aayirunnu, Innova long drives-in comfortable aayirunnu, especially Mumbai to Trimbakeshwar journey. Nashik-il Panchavati ghats evening time-il nalla beautiful aayirunnu, river side-il rituals cheyyunna pilgrims okke kaanan interesting aayirunnu. Shirdi darshan queue expected-nekkal fast aayi move cheythu, athu nannayi. Ellora Caves aanu enikku ettavum impressive aayathu, ithra detailed carvings undennu expect cheythilla. But last day Bhimashankar visit kurachu rushed aayi thonni, return flight catch cheyyanulla tension undayirunnu. Athukond avide proper aayi enjoy cheyyan pattiyilla. Overall trip okay aayirunnu, but kurachu relaxed timing undayirunnenkil experience better aayene.
Ye three-day trip overall theek tha, bas itinerary thodi tightly packed lagi. Mumbai se Trimbakeshwar drive mein Kasara Ghat ke paas road work ki wajah se four hours se thoda zyada time lag gaya, isliye thakan ho gayi thi. Shirdi ka hotel ek night ke liye comfortable enough tha. Second day Grishneshwar, Ellora aur Shani Shingnapur ek saath cover karna thoda ambitious laga, aur Ahmednagar pahunchte-pahunchte sab kaafi tired ho gaye the. Ellora Caves, however, genuinely amazing the, especially Kailasa Temple jo single rock se carved hai. Ellora ke paas ek small dhaba mein proper Maharashtrian misal bhi try ki, surprisingly tasty thi. Bhimashankar se trip end karna peaceful laga aur busy day ke baad achha break mila. Overall experience decent raha, lekin second day thoda relaxed hota toh trip aur enjoyable hota.
I went on this trip with my son, who is really interested in history and architecture, so he enjoyed Ellora Caves a lot and spent quite some time photographing the carvings. For me, though, the overall trip was quite tiring and didn’t turn out as enjoyable as I had hoped. Trimbakeshwar and Panchavati were nice, and Shirdi darshan was crowded but fairly organized. Grishneshwar Temple was peaceful, while Shani Shingnapur was interesting to see. Ahmednagar was fine for a short night stay. The biggest difficulty for me was Bhimashankar on the final day, as the walking and trekking were more than I expected. By evening my knees were really hurting, and I was too tired to enjoy the last part properly. With so many temples and places covered in a short time, the itinerary felt physically demanding. My son had a better time than I did, but personally I found the trip too hectic.
