Because the weather is mild and ideal for sightseeing, water sports, and beach excursions, the months of October to May are ideal for visiting the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The monsoon season, which lasts from July to September, is not always recommended due to high tidal waves, constant rain, and strong winds.
Andaman Island is home to Asia’s only active volcano. Barren Island, about 135 kilometres from Port Blair, is home to Asia’s only known active volcano. Barren Volcano erupted for the first time in 1787, followed by a six-month eruption in 2010. Since then, it has been known to spew lava in minor eruptions.
For centuries, the Andamans have been known as Kala Paani due to its cellular jail. Andaman was previously used as a prison central for transporting prisoners from the mainland. This Cellular Jail has become a popular tourist attraction.
This Union Territory consists of approximately 500 islands scattered like green jewels in the Bay of Bengal. This is how the name “The Emerald Islands” came to be.
