Sri Lanka played an important role in the ancient Indian epic Ramayana. And there are multiple significant places here that are deeply connected to the Hindu mythology tale of Lord Rama, Sita, and Ravana. Include the following sites in your itinerary to see it all and have a full-fledged journey:
| Place | Description / Significance |
|---|---|
| Seetha Amman Temple (Nuwara Eliya) | According to the Ramayana, this is the place where Goddess Sita was held captive by Ravana. This temple houses Ashok Vatika where Sita spent her days in captivity. The temple also possesses a beautiful Sita idol. |
| Ravana Falls (Kandy) | This majestic waterfall is widely believed to be the place where Ravana used to take his baths. It beautifully cascades down in a number of tiers and makes for a perfect tourist spectacle. It must be included in your Sri Lanka Ramayana holiday package. |
| Hakgala Botanical Garden | This place lies in close proximity to Ashoka Vatika. This legendary garden has a variety of plants. Tourists just love to stroll around here and reflect on the Ramayana. |
| Manavari Temple (Anuradhapura) | According to legend, Manavari is the first place where Lord Rama set foot after coming to Sri Lanka. It is also believed to be the place where he built a shrine and performed puja of Lord Shiva after defeating Ravana. |
| Ramboda Falls (Ramboda) | This is another waterfall that is linked to Ravana. Ramboda Falls is one of the places where he had his Pushpak Viman fly over when he was taking Sita home. He did this to show her the beauty of his kingdom. Today, travellers love the cold winds blowing here and enjoy the picturesque views of lush tea plantations surrounding the area. |
| Sigiriya | Sigiriya is also closely related to the Ramayana. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a rock fortress where Sita was kept as a captive by Ravana in his kingdom. Tourists love the panoramic views from the top of the rock. A must-addition to the luxury Ramayana Tour Package Sri Lanka! |
| Divurumpola (Near Nuwara Eliya) | This sacred place is where Sita underwent Agni Pariksha to prove her innocence after her rescue. Before reuniting with Rama, it is believed that Sita walked around the sacred area in Divurumpola. |

Exploring the Ramayana trail in Sri Lanka with my elderly parents was a deeply spiritual experience. Visiting Munneswaram Temple in Chilaw and Seetha Amman Temple in Nuwara Eliya brought tears of joy to my mother. The cool misty weather in the tea gardens made the mountain drive very soothing. Our coaster bus was clean and comfortable. The long drive from Trincomalee to Kandy took nearly five hours due to road repairs, but the peaceful temple visits made up for every bit of road fatigue.
Doing this Ramayana Yatra was my lifelong dream. Standing at Seetha Amman Temple where Mata Sita prayed gave me immense peace. Temple priest explained the significance beautifully. Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy was also very serene. Food arrangements were good, and clean bottled water was provided every day.
Sri Lanka Ramayana tour chala bagundi. Seeing footprints of Lord Hanuman near Seetha Amman temple was mindblowing experience. Coastal drive along Trincomalee and Colombo city sights were very scenic. AC van was clean and driver drove very safely across winding hill routes.
Ramayana trail tour in Sri Lanka surpassed our expectations. Misty mountains in Nuwara Eliya felt like mini England. Visiting Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara in Colombo on the last day completed our journey beautifully. Excellent hotel accommodations everywhere.
Exceptional 8-day tour. Ravana Ella waterfall and Ravana caves near Ella were impressive. Local fruits like king coconut on highway stalls were very refreshing. Entire itinerary was executed on schedule without any confusion.
Entire trip ekdam mast tha. Seetha Amman temple and Koneswaram temple darshan was deeply moving. Driver on hill roads was skilled and patient. Colombo shopping malls had good handicraft items. Total value for money.
Unforgettable Ramayana tour. Seeing the ocean view from Trincomalee cliff temple was magical. Comfortable AC vehicle made long distance travel easy. Local tea tasting in Nuwara Eliya was an added bonus.
Booked this 8-day trip as a couple's getaway. Ashok Vatika and Ravana Ella waterfall were absolute highlights. The lush green landscapes around Ella and Nuwara Eliya were stunning. Hotels provided good vegetarian food, though breakfast in Kataragama had limited options for pure veg travelers. Colombo shopping on the final day was great fun. Highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting to mix mythology with nature.
Family trip covering major Ramayana spots. Visiting Thirukoneswaram temple in Trincomalee and Sanjeevani hill side was amazing. Vehicle provided was spacious for our 6-member group. Mountain road curves near Nuwara Eliya gave slight motion sickness to my daughter, but frequent tea breaks helped a lot.
Traveled solo on this itinerary. Highly spiritual and serene vibe everywhere. Koneswaram Temple sea view was majestic. Travel time between Kataragama and Colombo on Day 6 was a bit long, but smooth expressways made it bearable. Great trip for culture lovers.
Took my mother for her 60th birthday. The spiritual atmosphere at Kataragama temple and Munneswaram was wonderful. Cool breeze and tea plantation tours in Nuwara Eliya were very relaxing. Very polite hotel staff across all destinations.
Wonderful spiritual journey with family. Seeing Hakgala Botanical Garden (Ashok Vatika) with colorful flowers was delightful. Hotel in Nuwara Eliya was cozy with nice mountain views. Food was simple, fresh, and tasty.
Bahut hi sundar aur dharmik Yatra. Seetha Amman Temple and Ravana Ella waterfall look exactly like described in scriptures. Great hospitality from Sri Lankan locals, tasty vegetarian food options, and smooth travel arrangements throughout the 8 days.
Sri Lanka Ramayana trip ta shundor experience chhilo. Trincomalee-r cliff er upor Koneswaram Temple-er view ta ekdom breathtaking lagchhilo. Weather puro trip-e pleasant chhilo, although Colombo ektu gorom aar humid chhilo. Day 5-e heavy rain-er jonno Kataragama jawar departure praye ek ghonta late hoyechhilo. Management smooth chhilo aar hotel stays-o decent chhilo.
Good balance of temples and sightseeing. Ashok Vatika garden is beautiful and well maintained. Sri Lankan rice and curry lunch at a local village near Kandy was delicious. Hotel room in Anuradhapura had wifi issues, but overall hospitality was very warm.
Good itinerary covering Ramayana sites. Ashok Vatika and Trincomalee cliff temple were highlights. Weather was hot in Anuradhapura, so start early morning for sightseeing. Clean vehicle and helpful local team throughout.
Detailed 8-day tour covering major historical and mythological places. Beautiful hill scenery between Kandy and Nuwara Eliya. Slight traffic jam while entering Colombo on Day 6, but overall logistics were well handled.
Travelled with a group of relatives and Sri Lanka ki greenery really beautiful lagi. Day 1 par Manavari Temple aur Munneswaram visit memorable raha. Kandy hotel ka dinner bhi tasty tha aur service achhi thi. Bas itinerary thodi packed lagi, jiski wajah se long travel ke baad relax karne ka time kam mila. Kuch temple visits bhi jaldi-jaldi cover karne pade. Overall spiritual experience achha tha, but pace thoda tiring raha.
Trip achhe se organize kiya tha. Badrinath aur South India ke temples ke baad Sri Lanka ke Ramayana sites dekhna ek alag hi experience tha. Kandy Lake par evening walk bahut peaceful lagi. Colombo se return flight mein delay hone ki wajah se thodi thakan ho gayi, aur overall travel schedule bhi kaafi packed tha. Phir bhi trip meaningful raha, bas thoda more rest time hota toh experience aur comfortable hota.
Yatra ka ending overall meaningful raha. Kataragama ke temple rituals vibrant aur energetic the, jo experience ka highlight raha. Lekin Trincomalee hotel mein check-in ke time kaafi delay hua, aur long travel ke baad waiting thodi tiring lagi. Rooms milne ke baad clean aur spacious the, but check-in process aur packed schedule ki wajah se stay utna comfortable nahi laga.
For one week on average, the trip to Sri Lanka can cost 20,000 Indian rupees per person.
Koneswaram temple is a very famous Ravana Temple complex in Sri Lanka and it is the same place where Ravana and his mother are believed to have performed worship to Lord Shiva.
No. India is 11.2% more expensive than Sri Lanka.
Namaste India Trip offers several packages to explore Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka tour package from Chennai is a bestselling option due to its proximity to the island nation.
There are numerous places of Ramayana important to visit in Sri Lanka. A typical tour map of Sri Lanka for Ramayana will take you to places like Sigiriya Rock Fort, Ashok Vatika, Munneswaram Temple, Divurumpola Monastery, Chillaw, Colombo, Negombo, and many more.
