The Adi Kailash & Om Parvat Yatra from Kathgodam is a 6-day pilgrimage entirely within India — no China visa, no Tibet permit, no international travel needed.
Starting and ending at Kathgodam Railway Station — the most connected railhead for Kumaon, with direct trains from Delhi, Lucknow, Varanasi, and other major cities — this package is designed for pilgrims joining from across North India.
The Yatra takes you deep into the Pithoragarh district of the Kumaon Himalayas: to Adi Kailash (Chhota Kailash, 5,945 m), revered as Lord Shiva's sacred peak in India, and to Om Parvat (5,590 m), where the divine symbol "ॐ" appears naturally on the mountain face. Both are part of the Panch Kailash — the five sacred Kailash peaks of Hindu tradition.
The route also includes Jageshwar Dham, Kainchi Dham, Patal Bhuvaneshwar Cave Temple, Kalapani, and Vyas Gufa — making this one of the most spiritually complete Kumaon pilgrimages available in 6 days.
The total distance from Kathgodam to Adi Kailash (Jyolingkong) is approximately 390–450 km one way via Pithoragarh and Dharchula. The complete round-trip distance for this 6-day yatra — Kathgodam to Kathgodam — is approximately 825 km, covered across the itinerary days in comfortable stages.
The road from Kathgodam to Dharchula is well-paved and motorable. From Dharchula onwards to Gunji and Jyolingkong, the route is entirely off-road mountain tracks requiring 4x4 vehicles.

A note for all guests: Adi Kailash is a remote, high-altitude border region with limited tourism infrastructure. Accommodation is clean and well-managed — but not luxury-category. Simple washroom facilities at Gunji, occasional power interruptions, and basic mountain amenities are part of the experience. The true richness of this pilgrimage lies in its sacred landscape and spiritual depth.

| Dharchula → Gunji → Adi Kailash → Om Parvat → Dharchula | Mahindra Bolero Camper or equivalent 4x4 |
From Dharchula onwards, roads are narrow, rocky, and entirely off-road mountain tracks. 4x4 vehicles are mandatory per local administration. All vehicles are regularly inspected and driven by experienced Himalayan drivers.
This is practical information most first-time yatris need:
Last reliable ATM: Dharchula. Carry sufficient cash from here onwards — no ATMs beyond Dharchula on the route to Gunji, Jyolingkong, or Nabhi-Dhang.
Recommended cash to carry from Dharchula: Minimum ₹3,000–₹5,000 per person for porter/horse charges, personal purchases, donations at temples, and emergency expenses.
Mobile network: Airtel, BSNL, and Jio networks work up to Dharchula. Beyond Dharchula, connectivity is very limited or absent. Wi-Fi available at the Finding Shiva community village at Nabi. Inform family about expected communication gaps before departure.
Photography tip: Carry extra batteries and keep them body-warm in cold conditions. The Parvati Sarovar reflection and Om Parvat formation are the two most-photographed moments of the yatra — plan early morning timing for both.
Our team handles all ILP formalities at Dharchula.
Foreign nationals require a Protected Area Permit (PAP) from the Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi — this is a separate, more complex process from the standard ILP. PAP regulations and eligibility are subject to security policies and may change. Contact our team at least 2–3 months before travel to confirm current status and initiate the process. Foreign nationals are advised to verify eligibility before planning this yatra.
This Yatra reaches 4,570 m altitude. It is NOT suitable for the following without specialist medical advice and clearance:
If you have any of these conditions, please consult your specialist and discuss with us before booking. We prioritise your safety over your booking.
Even physically fit pilgrims can experience AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) at 4,570 m. This is a physiological response to reduced oxygen — not a sign of weakness.
Symptoms:
Action: Report symptoms immediately to your guide. Descent is the fastest remedy. Oxygen available on board. Do not push through severe symptoms.

Welcome to the Sacred Adi Kailash Yatra
Your pilgrimage begins at Kathgodam Railway Station — the gateway to the Kumaon Himalayas and one of the most connected railheads in North India. Our representative receives you and the drive into the hills begins.
En Route Sightseeing:
Arrive in Pithoragarh — the main gateway city for the Adi Kailash and Om Parvat Yatra, known locally as the "Mini Kashmir" of Uttarakhand. Check in, welcome drink, and acclimatize.
Into the Restricted Himalayan Zone
Early breakfast and departure toward Dharchula — the border town on the banks of the Kali River, which forms the India-Nepal international boundary.
Permit Formalities at Dharchula: Complete the mandatory Medical Check-up and Inner Line Permit (ILP) process. Our team handles all paperwork. Indian citizens need the ILP only. Foreign nationals require a Protected Area Permit (PAP) — see the Permit section below for details.
En Route Highlights:
Arrive at Gunji or Nabi Village by evening — the gateway to the Adi Kailash region. These ancient Vyas Valley villages offer authentic Himalayan hospitality in a deeply spiritual atmosphere.
Accommodation: Local Homestay (Common Washroom)
The Sacred Darshan of Adi Kailash
Early breakfast before setting out for the spiritual centrepiece of the yatra. Drive through the Kali Valley to Jyolingkong — Adi Kailash rises in pyramidal majesty before you, its shape a near-perfect mirror of Mount Kailash in Tibet.
Parvati Sarovar — The sacred glacial lake at the foot of Adi Kailash. Its still surface reflects the mountain with extraordinary clarity. Optional 2 km Parikrama of the lake (subject to individual fitness and weather).
Gauri Kund — 3–4 km trek to this sacred glacial pool associated with Goddess Parvati. Rocky but non-technical terrain.
Shiva-Parvati Temple, Jyolingkong — Principal temple of the region. Offer puja with Adi Kailash as the divine backdrop.
What pilgrims experience here: Most spend 30–60 minutes in quiet contemplation near Parvati Sarovar. The combination of the mountain's presence, the stillness of the lake, and the thin Himalayan air creates a quality of inner quiet that is difficult to find anywhere else. Many pilgrims describe this as the moment the entire yatra truly arrived for them.
Highlights: Adi Kailash darshan, Parvati Sarovar, Gauri Kund, optional 2 km Parikrama
Witness the Divine Symbol "ॐ" on the Mountain
After early breakfast, drive toward Nabhi-Dhang (~4,300 m) — the last vehicle-accessible point before Lipulekh Pass. Complete security verification. From the open viewpoint, Om Parvat reveals the "ॐ" formed naturally in black rock and white snow. On a clear morning, the formation appears with a precision that is difficult to believe is natural.
En Route Sacred Sites:
Continue to Didihat or Chaukori — charming Kumaon hill towns with sweeping Himalayan views.
Highlights: Om Parvat darshan, Kalapani, Kali Temple, Shani Temple, Vyas Gufa
The Underground Abode of Lord Shiva
After early breakfast, drive back through the Kumaon foothills — with one extraordinary sacred stop en route.
Patal Bhuvaneshwar Cave Temple — "The Underground Abode of Lord Shiva." An ancient limestone cave shrine mentioned in the Skanda Purana, associated by legend with the Pandavas of the Mahabharata. Descend through a narrow natural passage into a subterranean world of limestone formations associated with Hindu deities — Lord Ganesha, Sheshnag, Garuda, a natural Shivlinga. Comfortable footwear and comfort with enclosed spaces required; provided socks must be worn.
Continue to Bhimtal — a beautiful Kumaon lake town — for a peaceful overnight stay.
Highlights: Patal Bhuvaneshwar Cave Temple, Bhimtal lakeside
Farewell to the Himalayas
After a leisurely breakfast, a short scenic drive returns you to Kathgodam Railway Station. Carry home the blessings of Adi Kailash, the vision of "ॐ" on Om Parvat, the stillness of Parvati Sarovar, and the grace of six days in the Kumaon Himalayas.

Approximately 390–450 km one way via Pithoragarh and Dharchula. The complete 6-day round trip (Kathgodam to Kathgodam) covers approximately 825 km. The road from Kathgodam to Dharchula is well-paved; from Dharchula onwards it is entirely off-road mountain track requiring 4x4 vehicles.
They are different experiences — not directly comparable. Adi Kailash (5,945 m) is in India, takes 6 days from Kathgodam, costs ₹20,000–₹45,000, requires no international travel, and involves minimal trekking. Kailash Mansarovar (6,638 m) is in Tibet, takes 10–24 days, costs ₹2,45,000+, and includes the 42 km Kailash Kora. Both are part of the Panch Kailash. For devotees who cannot travel internationally, Adi Kailash is the most significant sacred alternative.
No — the minimum recommended age is 18 years. The yatra reaches 4,570 m altitude. Remote terrain, off-road driving, limited medical facilities, and AMS risk make this unsuitable for children. Please do not bring minors on this route.
Om Parvat stands at 5,590 m (18,340 ft). The darshan viewpoint at Nabhi-Dhang is at approximately 4,300 m and is vehicle-accessible — no trekking is required to see the Om symbol.
Yes — one of the most senior-friendly high-altitude pilgrimages in India. The route is largely motorable. Maximum trekking at any single point is 3–4 km and is optional. Horse and porter services are available locally. Pilgrims aged 65–70 should travel only after thorough medical evaluation and with their doctor's fitness certificate. Those above 70 should discuss altitude risks frankly with us and their doctor before booking.
Starting from ₹20,800 per person (Scorpio, group of 6, Standard hotels). For a group of 4 with Scorpio: ₹25,350 per person. Deluxe category: ₹44,900 per person (4 pax basis). All prices exclude GST @5%. Contact us for an exact quote based on your group size and preference.
Indian citizens need an Inner Line Permit (ILP) from SDM Dharchula and a Medical Fitness Certificate from any MBBS doctor. We assist with ILP at Dharchula. Foreign nationals require a Protected Area Permit (PAP) from the Ministry of Home Affairs — a separate and more complex process. PAP eligibility and regulations are subject to change; contact us at least 2–3 months before travel to confirm.
Kathgodam to Dharchula: well-paved roads. Dharchula to Gunji, Jyolingkong, and Nabhi-Dhang: entirely off-road mountain tracks — rocky, narrow, unpaved. 4x4 vehicles are mandatory and included in our package for this section.
AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) results from sudden exposure to reduced oxygen at altitude. Symptoms: headache, fatigue, nausea, loss of appetite, heavy breathing. Prevention: build fitness before travel, stay hydrated, ascend gradually, consult your doctor about Diamox. Our vehicle carries oxygen. Descent is the fastest remedy. Never ignore symptoms.
Airtel, BSNL, and Jio work until Dharchula. Beyond Dharchula: very limited connectivity. Wi-Fi at Finding Shiva community village, Nabi. ATMs: last reliable ATM is in Dharchula — carry sufficient cash before proceeding. Recommended: carry ₹3,000–₹5,000 cash beyond Dharchula for personal expenses, porter/horse charges, and temple donations.
