Hindus consider the Triveni Sangam to be a very sacred place in India, believing that taking a dip there will wash away sins and free them from the cycle of rebirth, achieving Moksha.
The months of October to March are ideal for visiting Triveni Sangam because the weather is cool and calm. Though Triveni Sangam can be visited at any time of year, the winter months are extremely hot and humid.
Triveni sangam is the confluence of three holy rivers: the Ganga, the Yamuna, and the unseen Saraswati. For Hindus, the point of confluence is a sacred site, and a bath here is said to wash away all sins. It is a religious site with a very famous historical Kumbh Mela held here every 12 years.
Prayagraj was the previous name. The epicenter of the Indian Freedom Movement against British rule was Anand Bhawan in this city. Mahatma Gandhi proposed his nonviolent resistance programme to liberate India in Prayagraj (then known as Prayagraj).
The massive fort built by Emperor Akbar in 1583 A.D., Prayagraj Fort, stands on the banks of the Yamuna, close to the confluence site. The fort was unrivaled in its prime for its design, construction, and craftsmanship. This massive, majestic fort is flanked by three magnificent galleries and high towers.
