• Jagannath Temple Darshan — early morning: Arrive at the Singha Dwara before 7:00 AM on weekdays. The morning crowd is smaller, the temple priests are mid-ritual, and the atmosphere is at its most devotional.
• Watch the sunrise from Puri Beach: Puri's beach faces east — perfect for sea sunrises. The fishermen drag their boats in at dawn, the sky turns orange over the water, and the beach is almost empty. One of the better free experiences on this trip.
• Eat Mahaprasad at Ananda Bazaar: Inside the Jagannath Temple complex, Ananda Bazaar is where the Lord's prasad — cooked in 752 earthen pots over wood fire — is sold to devotees from 2:00 PM. The 56 varieties of bhog served here are unlike any temple food in India.

• Sunset at Khandagiri-Udayagiri Caves: The view from the top of Khandagiri Hill at dusk — city lights below, caves around you — is one of the quieter pleasures of Bhubaneswar. The caves themselves date to the 2nd century BCE.

• Entry: Shree Jagannath Temple is open to Hindu devotees only. Non-Hindu visitors may view the deities from the rooftop of the Raghunandan Library, located directly opposite the Singha Dwara (Lion Gate — main entrance).
