Mera pehla trip tha North East mein aur Agartala ne dil jeet liya. Palace dekh kar laga jaise history ki kitab khul gayi ho. Tripura Sundari temple ka darshan bahut hi shanti wala experience tha, bheed bhi zyada nahi thi. Chabimura ki carvings river ke paas dekh kar sach mein amazed ho gayi, aisi jagah pehle kabhi nahi dekhi. Weather thoda thanda tha January mein so carry a light jacket. Sepahijala area bhi nearby explore kiya, wildlife dekhne ko mila jo bachon ko bahut pasand aaya. Overall trip bahut hi smooth raha, sirf ek din ka drive thoda lamba lag gaya tha.
Went with my husband and two kids, ages 9 and 12, and the itinerary was manageable for the children too. Heritage Park had open spaces for the kids to run around after the palace visit which was mostly indoor walking. Temple darshan was peaceful and the priests there were helpful in explaining the significance of the place. Chabimura boat ride was the favourite part for my kids, they still talk about the rock carvings. Sepahijala had some deer and primates which made for a nice half day outing. Weather was pleasant through December, light woollens were enough.
This trip stayed with me long after I came back. There is something about the Tripura Sundari Temple, the red and white structure and the surrounding trees, that felt untouched by commercial tourism. Chabimura exploration by boat along the river with the rock cut images of Vishnu carved into the cliffs was unlike anything I had seen before in India. Souvenir shopping near the temple got me some bamboo craft items. Sepahijala visit added a nice nature break to the trip. Monsoon had just ended so everything was lush green. Only wish the itinerary had one more day to explore Agartala market area properly.
As someone from a neighbouring state, I had heard a lot about Tripura Sundari temple and finally visited on this trip with my mother. The temple lived up to the stories, very sacred energy and the pond nearby added to the calm setting. Heritage Park on day one had good landscaping and photo spots. Chabimura was a pleasant surprise, did not expect ancient carvings along a river in Tripura. Weather in December was cool and comfortable for sightseeing all day. Kailashahar trip took most of day 3 but included a stop at a local market which my mother enjoyed for shopping. Small delay in checkout on the last day but nothing that affected the trip.

Travelled with my husband from Guwahati, so the regional similarities felt familiar but Tripura still had its own charm. Ujjayanta Palace at sunset looked beautiful, the lighting on the domes is worth catching in the evening. Temple visit was deeply moving, the idol and the whole setup felt very original and untouched. Chabimura's cliff carvings surprised us both, we did not expect something this historic tucked along the river. Local bamboo shoot preparations at one of the meals were new to my husband and he loved it. Sepahijala's clouded leopard enclosure was a nice addition. February weather was cool mornings and pleasant afternoons throughout.
Bahut hi peaceful trip tha, mujhe Tripura Sundari temple ka experience abhi tak yaad hai. Ujjayanta palace ki architecture dekh kar laga history class ho rahi ho. Heritage park mein evening walk bhi acchi lagi. Chabimura ka boat ride sabse memorable part tha, river ke kinare purani carvings dekh kar sach mein achha laga. January ka weather bilkul perfect tha, na zyada thanda na garam. Kailashahar ka trip thoda lamba tha but road ke aas paas ke views ne bore nahi hone diya. Overall trip bahut satisfying raha.
My wife and I have travelled to many temple towns across India but Tripura Sundari had a distinct character, the surrounding forest and the pond near the temple gave it a very natural setting. Day one at Ujjayanta Palace gave good context to the history of the region before visiting the temple. Chabimura boat exploration the next day was unexpectedly one of the best parts of the trip, the ancient carvings on the cliffs by the river were fascinating. Sightseeing on the last day covered a couple of local markets before our flight. October weather was warm but not uncomfortable. A trip we would happily recommend to fellow travellers.
Winter trip with my husband, both of us wanted something offbeat and Agartala fit perfectly. Ujjayanta Palace lit up in the evening was a beautiful sight, we spent longer there than planned. Border visit added an interesting geopolitical touch to the trip. Temple darshan on day two felt genuinely spiritual, not overly commercialised like some other pilgrimage spots we have visited. Chabimura boat ride through calm waters with ancient carvings on either side was the most memorable part for both of us. December weather was cold in the mornings so warm clothes were necessary. Kailashahar day was long but scenic throughout. A well rounded short trip overall.
Solo trip and I am glad I chose Agartala, not a very crowded destination which I liked. Day one covered Ujjayanta Palace and the Heritage Park, both nicely maintained. Indo Bangla border visit in the evening was interesting, got to see the flag lowering type routine from a distance. Temple visit next day was the actual purpose of the trip and it did not disappoint, very old and sacred feeling to the place. Local food, especially the fish curry with rice, was simple but tasty. Vehicle used for travel was comfortable for the hilly stretches. Only complaint is the road towards Kailashahar has some rough patches so keep motion sickness tablets handy if you get carsick.
Booked this as a short break from work and it worked out well within 4 days. Agartala city itself is calm, not overly touristy. Palace and Heritage Park on day one gave a slow paced start to the trip. Second day was dedicated to the temple and honestly the drive itself through the green hills was as memorable as the temple visit. Chabimura is underrated, more people should know about the riverside carvings there. Local fish dishes were a nice change from what I usually eat. Kailashahar leg was long, almost a full day of travel with limited stops, could be planned better. Still a worthwhile trip for anyone wanting to explore Tripura.
Went with 3 friends for a short getaway. April heat was manageable since Agartala doesn't get too extreme compared to plains. Ujjayanta Palace was bigger than I expected, took us close to two hours to cover properly. Border visit in the evening was a nice add on. Temple darshan next day was smooth, no major crowd. Chabimura boat ride was the group favourite, water was calm and guide pointed out details in the carvings we would have missed otherwise. Kailashahar day was tiring due to distance but we stopped at a few local eateries on the way which was fun. Good trip overall for friends travelling together.
Year end trip with my sister, both of us are fond of temple tourism and this one added a new state to our list. Ujjayanta Palace was grander than expected, spent a good two hours there. Temple visit was calm despite the year end period, did not expect it to be this uncrowded. Chabimura's rock carvings by the river were a highlight neither of us had heard much about before visiting. Weather was cool, perfect for sightseeing without getting tired. Kailashahar trip on day 3 was long but the local market stop was a nice break. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys quieter pilgrimage circuits.
Travelled with my wife for our anniversary and Agartala turned out to be a quiet, offbeat choice. The Ujjayanta Palace museum has good documentation of the erstwhile kingdom which we both enjoyed reading. Border visit was brief but worth the stop. Temple town on day two had a genuine spiritual pull, less commercial compared to other pilgrimage places we have been to. Souvenir shopping near the temple gave us some handwoven textile items to take back home. The Kailashahar day trip felt slightly rushed given the distance covered, would have preferred an extra half day there. Food throughout was decent, mostly rice based thalis. Good trip for couples looking for something different.
Quick trip, practical review. Day 1 palace and border visit, both fine, nothing extraordinary but well organised. Day 2 temple visit was the core of the trip, darshan queue moved fast on the day we went. Chabimura boat trip added scenic value. Day 3 Kailashahar felt like a filler day honestly, distance is long for what you see there. Day 4 packed in some last minute sightseeing before the flight back. Hotels were clean, food was average, transport was punctual. Good for a short pilgrimage focused trip but not much else to do in the evenings in Agartala city.
Straightforward trip, did what it promised. Palace visit and border area covered on day one without much rush. Temple on day two is clearly the main draw of this package and it delivers, quiet surroundings and good arrangement for darshan. Chabimura boat ride added a scenic touch though the boat we got felt a bit old, worked fine but could be upgraded. Kailashahar day is long, almost 4 to 5 hours one way, plan accordingly if you get tired on long drives. Last day covered a few local markets before the flight. Reasonable trip for someone wanting to specifically see the temple and surrounding areas of Tripura.
Booked this for a short pilgrimage trip and it served its purpose well. Day one was light with the palace and border visit. Temple darshan on day two was the core experience, well managed and peaceful. Chabimura was an unplanned favourite for me, did not expect such a scenic boat ride to be part of a temple tour. Local food was simple, mostly rice and fish which took a day to get used to. Kailashahar felt like an extra long day with not too much to do at the destination itself. Last day sightseeing before departure was a nice wrap up though a little rushed given flight timing.
Came all the way from Srinagar for this trip and the climate difference itself was interesting to experience. Palace and Heritage Park on day one were relaxed, good introduction to the city. Temple visit the following day was the highlight, calm and well kept premises. Chabimura's carvings along the river added historical depth to the trip. Kailashahar day involved a lot of driving, roads were fine but the distance made it a tiring day. Local food took some getting used to since it is quite different from what I usually eat. Last day covered some quick shopping before departure. Decent trip overall for a pilgrimage plus sightseeing mix.

We took this 4-day trip with my parents and overall it was a good experience, though there were a few tiring parts. Ujjayanta Palace was a nice start to the trip, and my father especially enjoyed the museum and the beautiful lawns. Tripura Sundari Temple was the highlight for us, with a calm and peaceful atmosphere that felt quite different from other temple towns. Chabimura was another interesting stop, especially the riverside rock carvings. The boat ride was smooth, although the water level was a little low during our visit. The drive to Kailashahar on the third day was scenic but quite long, and my parents found the journey a bit tiring. Overall, we enjoyed the historical and spiritual places, but a slightly more relaxed schedule would have made the trip more comfortable for older travellers.
We took this family trip with my parents, wife, and daughter, five of us in total, but unfortunately the overall experience was quite tiring for our family. The palace visit was comfortable and easy for my parents, and the temple darshan was also manageable, with the queue moving steadily. My daughter really enjoyed the Chabimura boat ride and was curious about the carvings throughout the visit. However, the Kailashahar day was very difficult for my parents because of the long travel distance. Even with extra breaks, they were quite exhausted by the end of the day. We also found food choices limited at some stops, especially when travelling with different age groups. The hotel meals were sufficient but nothing special. While there were some enjoyable moments, the long drives and limited food options made the trip more tiring than we expected, especially for my parents.
Agartala is naturally beautiful, which makes it an attractive visit for the tourists. Moreover, it brings to the travellers a unique blend of culture and heritage through its unique museums, age-old temples, & stunning palaces. The city should be visited at least once in your life!
Consider Agartala to be a shopper’s delight! You can buy here bamboo products, tribal jewellery (colourful beads & ornaments), and traditional Tripuri garments. You can also get home decor items made of wood & clay.
The Agartala cuisine has tribal and Bengali influences. You can find dishes here like Mui Borok, Berma (a fish dish), bamboo shoot delicacies, and Chakhwi (bamboo shoot and meat curry). Also, try the popular sweet dish Chanar Payesh here.
The best time to visit Tripura is in winter. The months October to March mark the best period to come here as it offers pleasant weather throughout. The temperatures swing in the range of 10–25°C, making a conducive environment for sightseeing.
Tripura Sundari Temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, and it’s believed that whoever comes here gets their wishes fulfilled. It’s also said that devotees get rid of negative influences here.
