Bhuj Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Bhuj and Bhuj sightseeing

We welcome you at Bhuj Airport or Bhuj Railway Station. Our Namaste India Trip representative will escort you to the hotel. After some rest, we go out for local sightseeing in the old town:

  • Aina Mahal, the 18th-century mirror palace built for Maharao Lakhpatji
  • Prag Mahal, next door, built between 1865 and 1879 with a clock tower that looks over the city
  • Kutch Museum, founded in 1877
  • Chhatardi, the cenotaphs of the Kutch royal family
  • Nutan Swaminarayan Mandir

You may shop for souvenirs in the local market in the evening. Night stay at Bhuj.

Good to know: Gujarat Tourism lists Kutch Museum as closed on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month. Aina Mahal is closed on Thursdays and shuts between 11:45 am and 3 pm on other days.

Day 2: Mandvi and southern Kutch

After breakfast, we start for the southern part of Kutch. Mandvi is about 58 km southwest of Bhuj. On the way and in the town we visit:

  • 72 Jinalaya at Koday, a Jain temple complex on the way to Mandvi
  • Kranti Tirth, the memorial to freedom fighter Shyamji Krishna Varma, about 3 km from Mandvi (closed on Thursdays)
  • The shipbuilding yard on the Rukmavati river, where wooden dhows are still made by hand. The trade here is about 400 years old.
  • Vijay Vilas Palace, completed in 1929 as a summer palace for Yuvraj Vijayaraji
  • Ambe Dham at Godhra village near Mandvi
  • Wind Farm Beach, Mandvi

We return to Bhuj by evening. Night stay at Bhuj.

Day 3: Lakhpat, Narayan Sarovar and western Kutch

Today we visit the western part of Kutch. This is the longest day of the tour, so we leave early.

  • Mata no Madh, the temple of Ashapura Mata, about 105 km from Bhuj
  • Lakhpat Fort, a near-empty walled town with 7 km of fort walls put up in 1801
  • Lakhpat Gurudwara Sahib
  • The tomb of Pir Ghaus Muhammad, a carved stone tomb inside the fort
  • Narayan Sarovar, counted among the five holy lakes of Hinduism, about 150 km from Bhuj
  • Koteshwar Mahadev temple, about 2 km beyond Narayan Sarovar on the coast

We drive back to Bhuj for the night.

Day 4: Kalo Dungar and the White Rann in northern Kutch

We explore northern Kutch today. The road runs through the Banni grasslands and the Pachchham region to the Great Rann of Kutch.

  • Bhirandiyara village, the first stop and the checkpost where the White Rann permit is issued
  • Khavda and Ludiya villages
  • Kalo Dungar (Black Hill), about 90 km north of Bhuj. Gujarat Tourism lists it as the highest point in Kutch at 462 m. The Dattatreya temple on top gives a wide view of the Rann.
  • Hodka village
  • Dhordo village, about 86 km from Bhuj, and the White Rann, where we stay for the sunset

Dinner and stay at Bhuj.

Day 5: Bhujodi and Departure

The last day. If your train or flight leaves later in the day, we stop at Bhujodi, the weavers' village just outside Bhuj, to see Hiralaxmi Memorial Craft Park, and at the Bharatiya Sanskriti Darshan museum in town. We then drop you at Bhuj Airport or Bhuj Railway Station, wishing you a safe journey ahead.
