Nestled beautifully against the backdrop of the lofty Kedarnath Range, Kedarnath Shrine is one of the most significant and immensely revered pilgrimages of Lord Shiva. Despite being located at the extreme altitude on the Himalayas, Kedarnath Dham is flocked by millions of devout every year. Its importance and popularity can also be understood by the fact that Bollywood shot a movie on this pilgrimage and this is how Kedarnath is being called a place where modernity meets spirituality.
This ancient and magnificent temple of Lord Kedar (a manifestation of Lord Shiva) was established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century AD. The origin of this shrine is also very interesting as it is believed that there are numerous mythological tales stating its discovery and one of the most important one is related to the penance of Pandava brothers. It is said that once Pandavas were pretty much burdened with the guilt of fratricide and to free themselves away from that sin they performed a deep penance to Lord Shiva but Shiva was very upset with their act and so didn’t want to forgive them so easily. To hide from the Pandavas, he transformed himself into a bull but Bheema recognized him so Lord submerged himself into the ground and Bheema tried to get hold of him and this made Lord Shiva’s body scattered at different places.
The location of this huge Shiva shrine is adorned with mesmerizing scenic beauties including the lush green valley, gorgeous meadows, and the snow-peaked mountains and this makes it a perfect background to collect some amazing pictures for your travel frames.
