History

The history of City Palace is filled with several stories and royal events-

Construction-The City Palace was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh between 1729 and 1732. The area is surrounded by rocky hills that were carefully chosen by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh.

Inspiration and Design-Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II came up with the idea of building this palace. He invited Bengali architect Vidyadhar Bhattacharya and Sir Samuel Swinton Jacob to design the city of Jaipur.

Shift of Capital to Jaipur-Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II shifted his capital from Amber Fort to Jaipur due to water shortages and the increasing population in Amber. He built the City Palace there to provide a more comfortable home for the royal family with better access and smarter planning.

Jaipur's Royal History and Relations with the British-After Jai Singh died in 1744, the Rajput kings fought among themselves, but Jaipur stayed friendly with the British. Maharaja Ram Singh supported the British during the 1857 Sepoy Mutiny. To welcome the Prince of Wales, he painted all the monuments in Jaipur, including the City Palace, pink. Since then, Jaipur has been called the "Pink City."

Architecture

The whole palace is built in a grid style, with four gates for both entry and exit.

It also has many palaces, gardens, courtyards, temples, terraces, and balconies, decorated with latticework, marble carvings, and beautiful designs. The walls show the true Mughal style with unique murals, mirrors, and latticework.

The palace has beautiful balconies and windows with amazing city views.
