About Kedarnath

The temple of Kedarnath Dham is situated in the district of Rudraprayag within the holy state or Devbhumi Uttarakhand. It is a known fact that Kedarnath forms a crucial pillar for the holy Chota Char Dham Yatra however it also makes for an important part of the Panch Kedar pilgrimage yatra. This is the highest jyotirlinga of lord shiva and its accessibility is very challenging due to its location in the remote part of India. Gracing the bank of the holy river of Mandakini, did you know that the real construction date of the temple is not known? This fact makes the reverence of this temple even more pious.

The legend and mythological account of the temple goes back to the era when the gods used to walk the earth during satyug. The temple is said to have been built by the Pandava brothers who following the advice of their priest, decided to make their way to the Garhwal Himalayas with an aim of asking for forgiveness from the lord for committing the crime of killing their kin. Everywhere they went they created temples and shrines dedicated to lord shiva asking for forgiveness for the crimes they had committed in the eyes of the supreme lord.

However later on, it was left abandoned for ages along with being a part of a 400-year long mini ice age that had covered the entire district of Rudraprayag. It was not until the 7th or 8th century that the prominent sage, seer, and philosopher Adi Shankaracharya had reached Kedarnath in an attempt to revive the feeling of oneness among the Hindu population,

that this temple was revamped and made the center of Hindu pilgrimage. Ever since then Kedarnath had always been attracting travelers, pilgrims and Shaiva devotees from across the globe.
