The legend and mythological account of the temple goes back to the era when the gods used to walk the earth during satyug. The temple is said to have been built by the Pandava brothers who following the advice of their priest, decided to make their way to the Garhwal Himalayas with an aim of asking for forgiveness from the lord for committing the crime of killing their kin.
